Summertime is always filled with backyard parties for my family because we have so many birthdays! Every year my daughter asks for a tropical beach themed party, I think she’s secretly wishing that one year we’ll take her to Hawaii. This year was just like the last and we’re having a luau! After years of Hawaiian parties I’m running out of ideas for our menu. I plan on cooking chicken in the slow cooker with Hawaiian style barbecue sauce that we’ll serve on Hawaiian bread rolls along with coleslaw and fresh fruit. But what about dessert?
I would never have thought about pie for a Hawaiian party, but the EDWARDS® Key Lime pie was only $4.97 at Walmart so I thought I would give it a try. Let me tell you, it is amazing – so creamy and delicious! While I was shopping at Walmart for party supplies I picked up a few more for our guests to enjoy! To go along with our yummy dessert I used the crepe paper I bought for the party decorations to make flowers.
To make these flowers you’ll need crepe paper, scissors, a ruler, glue stick and card stock. Start by cutting circles from the card stock to use as the flowers base. Then cut (12) 2″ pieces of crepe paper, (8) 1 3/4″ pieces of crepe paper, and round the tops with the scissors. Next, use a glue stick to add the larger petals by pinching the petals at the base and press them into the glue on the circle, continue to make another layer with the smaller petals. To make the middle piece cut a 6″ piece of crepe paper, fold it in half and cut half way down to fringe the ends. Then roll up the fringed piece, seal it with glue, cut the unfringed side down to fit inside the flower and glue it to the middle of the flower.
Once you’ve made your flowers then you’re ready to decorate your table! I bought forks, plates and napkins in coordinating colors and placed the flowers around them all.
If your dessert table is outside be sure to use double sided tape to hold down the flowers, mine blew away within minutes!
Now there’s only one thing left to do – eat pie! I thought this moment would never come…
