Homemade Taco Seasoning
This recipe for taco seasoning has quickly become a family favorite. I love it so much more than any store bought packets and it works well with all sorts of dishes. I stumbled upon it years ago, but stopped making it when I was pregnant with my first baby because I couldn’t eat spicy foods. I recently found it in an old cookbook and made it for my family. I was pleasantly surprised that my kids liked it too!
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 3 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 2 tsp black pepper
I use 2 tbsp of the mix when cooking because I don’t want to make it too spicy for the kids. But friends of mine that have used it usually use about 2-3 tbsp. Normally I will take 1 pound of cooked meat, or cubed tofu and mix 2 tbsp of the seasoning mix with 1 tsp of flour, then add 2/3 cup of water and let the mixture simmer until thick. You can also mix the meat or tofu with the seasoning and tomato sauce to fill enchiladas. There are so many possibilities!
This looks good! I use a lot of these same ingredients when cooking, so I need to mix some of this up to keep on hand. Be quicker to use with it all mixed up together. My kids are grown, so no kids in the house, so the spicier the better. ;-D Thanks for sharing!
This is great! My husband has been wanting to make our own.
Thank you so much for sharing this! We’re having Taco Soup tonight and I had to run out and get an envelope of Taco Seasoning….I won’t have to do that anymore!!
