We all know that the holidays can be stressful. This time of year should be joyous and happy, but we try so hard to find the perfect gift for our loved ones, go to every holiday party, meet up with old friends – the list goes on and on. Today I’m going to try and take a little of the stress away by sharing an easy dessert recipe that can be made in minutes and makes a great gift or treat to bring to those holiday parties.
If you’ve never had a hand pie, it’s basically a mini pie or bite size pie. For this recipe you need a pre-made refrigerated box of 2 pie crusts (because who has time to make one from scratch?!?!), JET-PUFFED Miniature Marshmallows, KRAFT Caramel Bits, and BAKER’S Semi-Sweet Chocolate. That’s it!
Start by rolling out your pie dough. For me, it never fails that when I roll out my dough the last half breaks into a million pieces. I found that it’s easiest to try and get it rolled out as best you can, then use your finger tips and a little bit of water to smooth those edges or cracks back together.
Once your dough is smooth, use a circle biscuit or cookie cutter to cut your pieces. You will need 2 circles per pie – top and bottom.
Next, add your JET-PUFFED Miniature Marshmallows, KRAFT Caramel Bits to the center of one circle. I’ve made these a few times and it seems to work best if you place a few marshmallows in the middle and surround them with the caramel bits.
Place your second circle on top and press the edges together with a fork. Then cut a few slits in the top for ventilation, otherwise you may have caramel bursting out of the seams!
Bake your pies in a 400 degree oven for 12-15 minutes, or until they start to brown on top.
While your pies are cooling down, melt your BAKER’S Semi-Sweet Chocolate in the microwave according to the package instructions. Then, drizzle the chocolate over the pies.
Obviously drizzling is not one of my strengths, but as long as there’s chocolate on top it will taste great!
I purchased all of my ingredients at my local Walmart. You can find the dry ingredients near the baking aisle, on the Christmas Holiday Bake Center. I love that during the holidays all of the typical cooking and baking items for the season are all in one place. It makes shopping so much easier!
The four ingredients needed for this recipe cost less than $10 and I was able to make 12 pies, that’s only $0.77 per pie! Not only is the Christmas Holiday Bake Center at Walmart convenient, but it’s also budget-friendly. And I know that comes in handy for everyone during this time of year!
I’ve never made hand pies before. These look easy and good! [client]
