12 Creative Date Night Ideas
Life with kids is tough sometimes, especially when it comes to finding time for yourself – not to mention time for you and your spouse! My husband and I have been together since our early 20’s and sometimes it’s a struggle to find new things to do on date night. Over the year we’ve come up with some fun and creative ideas, today I am sharing a few from our list!
- Be a tourist in your city. There are lots of things to do in your city, or in the city next door that you may not know about. Go to your city’s website and map out a night on the town.
- Instead of dinner, go out for coffee and dessert. The idea is not only less expensive than going out to dinner, but you can go at a later time when the restaurant is not as crowded.
- Go miniature golfing. This is an activity to enjoy when you’re in a fun and playful mood. Sometimes it’s just nice to goof around and act like a little kid.
- Visit a local brewery. You can find a local brewery at CraftBeer.com and view their website, or call to see if they provide tours or have any events coming up.
- See a comedy show. My husband and I like to go to the Improv for dinner and a show, but this is usually for special occasions because it is more costly than any of the other ideas on this list.
- Wine tasting at a local winery or restaurant. If you do not have a winery local to tour, you can try a wine store or a local restaurant. Many have tasting or pairing events that are hosted by wine companies.
- Take a cooking class. Cooking is always a fun time together. Your local community college or culinary school will probably have classes available. There are also stores such as Williams-Sonoma that provide classes at select locations.
- Stay home & watch a movie. Sometimes it’s just nice to have a quiet night at home. Whether the kids are at Grandmas’ house, or just in bed, you can rent a movie, make popcorn and just relax together on the couch. Turn off your cell phones, put away the tablets and just enjoy each other’s company.
- Go to exhibits at the local museum. We have a fantastic museum close by that always has wonderful exhibits. My husband and I love history, but our kids are much too young to enjoy the exhibits that we want to see. This is a great date to enjoy on a Saturday afternoon.
- Take in an afternoon movie. Afternoon movies are not only less expensive, but they are usually less crowded also. That’s a win, win situation in my book!
- Picnic. Having a picnic in a park is a great alternative to eating out, especially now during Summer when the weather is nice. If you pack the meal yourself you’re not only saving money but you know for certain that you will enjoy your meal! Since you are saving money anyway, you can add in a few special treats that you would normally not indulge in, such as fancy chocolates or a nice bottle of wine.
- Game night with friends. Date night doesn’t always have to be just the two of you. Meet up with a few other couples and play board games. Some of our favorites are Scattergories, Pictionary and Battle of the Sexes. If you have a few couple friends that you regularly hang out with, each one of you can purchase games and trade off hosting date night.
