DIY Natural Moisturizing Body Wash
Years ago I wrote an article sharing my DIY Castile Soap Body Wash. I used it for years, but as with most products I have found some great ways to improve it! The original recipe is very watery and difficult to add to sponge without losing quite a bit. So, here is my latest version that has added oils for moisture and is thicker for easier use.
I like to use castile soap in my soap recipes because it’s a natural, non-toxic, biodegradable soap made from vegetable/vegan oils such as olive, coconut, walnut, or hemp oils. I also use vegetable glycerin for its moisturizing benefits. It helps to draw moisture to the top layer of skin and prevent dryness. Vitamin E Oil has anti-aging effects such as boosting skin’s elasticity and collagen production. You can use any carrier oil that you like, I personally like to use grapeseed oil for most of my bath products because it’s light but still provides moisture and can be used for all skin types.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup liquid castile soap
- 2 Tbsp carrier oil of choice (fractionated coconut oil, almond, olive, or grapeseed oil)
- 2 Tbsp vegetable glycerin
- 1 tsp Vitamin E oil
- 20-30 drops essential oils
Suggested Essential Oils to Use:
- Inflammation/Irritation – lavender, rosemary, chamomile
- Promote repair & cellular regenerate – lavender, rosemary, geranium, frankincense, sandalwood
- Stimulate blood circulation – lavender, rosemary
- Tighten & tone – lavender, rosemary, frankincense
- Hydrate, moisturize, soothe & soften – sandalwood, lavender, chamomile
- Reduce the signs of aging – rose, geranium, frankincense, lavender, neroli, sandalwood
Directions:
Mix all ingredients in a squeeze bottle or hand soap pump. You don’t need a big bottle, one of the travel size squeeze bottles will work. I use an empty hand soap pump. Tilt the bottle back and forth to gently mix the ingredients before each use. Use just a pea size amount of soap on a bath pouf, the mixture is concentrated and a little bit goes a long way!
