Easy 3 Ingredient Fudge Recipe
During the week of Christmas I tried my hand at making fudge for the first time. Over the years I had heard from friends and family that is was very difficult to make, so I never tried it. But I wanted to make treat boxes filled with sweets for gifts and fudge seemed like a great addition to the cookies and candies that I already had planned to include. After searching a few recipes online, it quickly became apparent that there were a lot of different ways to prepare fudge! Of course, I veered more towards the simple and easy recipes since I don’t like to spend too much time in the kitchen. I decided on making a fudge that only included 3 simple ingredients. I didn’t know how it would turn out since most recipes had more ingredients but I thought I’d give it a try.
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 (12oz) bag of chocolate chips
- 1 (14oz) can of sweetened condensed milk
Directions:
Cube butter and melt in a double boiler (or a heat safe bowl placed over a pan of boiling water) on medium heat.
NOTE: Cutting the butter in not required for the recipe, but it helps to melt the butter faster.
Once the butter is melted, add the chocolate chips and stir consistently until their are completely melted. Be sure to scrap the bottom of the pan as your stir so that the chocolate on the bottom doesn’t burn.
Next, add the sweetened condensed milk and stir consistently until all ingredients are well combined.
Lift up the pot (or bowl) with your chocolate mixture in it and be sure to wipe the bottom with a towel so that none of the water from the steam gets into your fudge, then pour the fudge into a lightly greased 8 or 9 inch square baking dish.
Last, smooth out the fudge to an even layer. You will need to do this quickly as the fudge starts to set almost instantly.
After refrigeration for 3-4 hours, take out and cut into pieces. I have found that it’s easier to remove the fudge from the pan if you but it first instead of trying to take it out in one big piece.
Isn’t that easy? I have tried this recipe a few times now and have made a few combinations. I reduced the chocolate chips by 1 cup and replaced it with peanut butter chips, this was my husband’s favorite. I have also topped a batch with toffee chips, this is my favorite! I’m not a big fan of white chocolate, so I probably won’t try that but I’m curious to see if I can incorporate cinnamon chips into a recipe. Yummmmm, cinnamon!
This looks delicious, I haven’t had fudge in ages I should really make some!
After the fudge was all gone, I had a piece of store bought candy and it just wasn’t the same…I may have to make this all the time! -Monika
