Fall Inspired Embossed Wall Art
Over the last few months, I’ve been trying out new ways to make and create fun pieces for my living room. We have lived here for 8 years with empty walls and I want to fill them but it feels like once I’m done decorating for one season it’s already time to start with another. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have lots to choose from next year! So far I have some pictures, fabric banners, and a few framed quotes up on the walls. I recently tried my hand at embossing paper, take a look at what I made!
Supplies:
- Sizzix Big Shot
- Sizzix Cutting Pads
- Sizzix Multipurpose Platform
- Sizzix Textured Impressions Embossing Folders 2PK – Fall
- cardstock
- colored ink (I used Memento Dew Drop Dye Inkpads)
- scissors
- frame
I started by cutting my pieces a bit larger than the embossing envelope so that I could trim them down to size and avoid negative space.
Then I embossed my background color (green) using the leaves folder and I used the orange paper for the main piece. Your Sizzix sandwich should be platform, cutting pad, envelope with paper inside and then another cutting pad on top.
Once you have your pieces embossed, trim them to fit the frame. I didn’t like that the seams to the green pieces were visible, they really stood out when I put just the orange piece in the middle so I added a burgundy strip of paper behind the orange piece to cover up the seams a bit.
Originally I left the pieces just embossed and I loved it! But once I had hung it on the wall and sat down on the couch I realized that I couldn’t see any of the detail from the embossing unless I was right in front of the piece! It looked like I just put colored paper in a frame. So I decided to apply colored ink to bring out the details.
For the green pieces, I used the Memento Dew Drop Dye Inkpad in Cottage Ivy. I like to use these Dew Drop Inkpads for a lot of projects because they are easy to hold and the shape allows me to control the amount of ink I apply. The top point of the Dew Drop was perfect for the small details of this project.
For the orange piece, I used the Memento Dew Drop Dye Inkpad in Potter’s Clay. This one took a little bit more time than the green pieces because the tiny leaves were hard to cover!
Here’s the finished piece! I have it hanging on the wall right when you walk into my living room. I think I might make one for each season and leave them up all year long. I guess all I need to do now is find more embossing folders!
