Game Day OREO Cookie Balls

Game Day OREO Cookie Balls

There’s a big game coming up, maybe you’ve heard? Whether you’re a sports fan or not, planning a party with your family and friends is always fun! Appetizers and dips will surely be on the menu, but what about dessert? Today I’m sharing with you a delicious and easy treat – OREO Cookie Balls! No matter which team you’ll be cheering for, everyone will agree that these cookie balls are the big winner of the party. Ready to get started? Let’s gather our ingredients!

Game Day OREO Cookie Balls

Ingredients:

  • 1 pkg. (8 oz.) brick cream cheese, softened
  • 36 OREO Cookies, finely crushed (about 3 cups)
  • 4 pkg. (4 oz. each) semi-sweet baking chocolate, melted (or colored candy melts)
  • Optional: team color candy melts, sprinkles, colored sugar (for decoration)

First, start by crushing all of the OREO cookies in a food processor until they are just crumbs. You can get creative and use a different flavor of OREO cookies for your base, I used peanut butter. Yum!

Add the cream cheese to a large bowl and stir it around to soften it up, then add the cookie crumbs until all ingredients are well blended.

Shape 48 (1-inch) balls from your cookie crumb mixture and place them on a cookie sheet, then freeze for 30 minutes.

Just before you take the balls out of the freezer, you will need to melt your chocolate chips or candy melts. I like to use a double boiler because the candy melts better and you can leave the pot on low to keep it warm while you are dipping. You can also melt the candy in the microwave, just follow the package directions. Before you start dipping, line a cookie sheet with wax paper and set next to your bowl of melted chocolate.

Using a long skewer, dip the balls in melted chocolate and gently tap to remove excess coating. Then place the balls in a single layer on the waxed paper-lined pan. If you are going to add sprinkles, now is the time to do it. Once the coating has hardened, the sprinkles won’t stick. Refrigerate for 1 hour.

To decorate my OREO Cookie Balls, I used candy melts in team colors drizzled over the cookies using the end of a skewer.

Now, in our house, we are not fans of either team playing in the big game next week so I decorated my OREO Cookie Balls using both team’s colors.

I also placed the OREO Cookie Balls in mini cupcake wrappers using coordinating team colors for a little extra presentation fun.

I purchased my OREO cookies at Walmart, as well as my other recipe ingredients. If you want to use the colored candy melts for your decorations, they are in the cake decorating aisle.

As you can see, this recipe is so easy and can be customized not only by using different colors for your team but also with different flavors! I used Peanut Butter flavored OREOs but you could also use Berry, Mint, Golden, or even Lemon! Be sure to keep an eye out for seasonal flavors too and search #OREOCookieBalls online for more recipe and decorating ideas. Enjoy!
