Making Good Choices for Kid’s Snacks
My kids are snackers. Against my best attempts to get them to sit down and each three meals a day, they are snackers through and through! So, to make life easier I decided to work with it instead of against it and make those snacks count! When you think of snacks you might think crackers, chips or cookies but that’s not the case in my house. Our snacks need to mean more, so we try to make good choices.
Here are a few of our favorite snacks:
- chopped vegetables such as bell peppers, carrots, or snap peas served with hummus (kids love dipping!)
- apple slices with peanut butter
- cheese and wheat crackers
- beans & rice (if your kids will eat salsa put some on top!)
- homemade granola with dried fruit & ground flax seed (for omega 3)
- yogurt
- graham crackers and applesauce
Now, when you ‘re on the go snacks are a little bit harder. They have to keep well and not make a mess! On a long car drive the last thing that I want to do is pull over to clean up food all over the car. So we try to keep it limited to single portion snacks in convenient packing!
Here are a few of our favorite on the go snacks:
- applesauce pouches
- trail mix
- pretzels
- homemade muffins or breads
- raisin boxes
Maybe you noticed that applesauce was on there twice? Yep. We’re big fans! Especially the Mott’s® Strawberry Applesauce. That one is a family favorite across the board. What I like the most about these snack pouches is that they have a twist off top that you can replace. I hate opening a snack pack, having the kids put it down to go play and then finding it spilled all over the place! They also fit perfectly into the snack boxes that I make for each kids when we’re out and about.
Mott’s® Snack & Go is the nutritious applesauce kids love in a squeezable pouch they can take with them wherever they go. Mott’s is also the only applesauce brand with Box Tops for Education®, helping to support kids’ schools. Visit motts.com to learn more.
