Homemade Applesauce
I learned how to make applesauce a little over six years ago when my daughter was just a baby. She loved apples so much and I didn’t want to just feed her apple puree. I started off making it with white sugar, then switched to brown sugar a few years later. It tastes so much better! The best part about making applesauce at home is the wonderful smell that fills the house.
Ingredients:
- 3 lbs of apples (I used Granny Smith)
- 1/4 c lemon juice
- 1/4 c brown sugar
- 1 1/2 c water
Directions:
- Peel, core and chop apples. They don’t need to be tiny pieces, just rough chop the apples.
- Add all ingredients to a large pot. Start with 1 1/2 c of water, you can add more if needed.
- Bring the pot to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 25-30 minutes or until the apples fall apart.
- Depending on how chunky you like your applesauce you can mash them with a potato masher, put them in a food processor (once it’s cooled) or just use a fork to lightly mashed the large chunks.

This really is such an easy way to make delicious applesauce. I usually do not put cinnamon in the large batch because a few people in my family don’t like it. For those of us who do like cinnamon we just sprinkle some on our own bowl. I also like to leave my applesauce chunky, then I can warm it up and add it to vanilla ice cream with a little sprinkle of cinnamon. It’s such a yummy Fall treat!
