How To Be Productive Working at Home
Working from home has become more and more of the norm for many people these days. When I first started working from home 10 years ago, I created a few bad habits that made getting any work done just about impossible. As convenient and beneficial as working from home can be, it can also prove to be damaging to your productivity. Up until now, you’ve associated your home as a space for relaxing. So, it can be difficult switching to a more productive mindset when you’re in the comfort of your home.
Staying productive when working at home isn’t easy but it is doable. Today I want to share a few tips to help boost your productivity and create helpful habits to optimize your time spent working at home.
De-clutter your workspace
You’re going to find it hard to stay productive if your workspace is cluttered. So, before you start, take time to clean up the area you’re planning on working in. Get rid of any clutter and organize the space. The cleaner and more organized the space is, the easier you’ll find it to focus on your work.
Take regular breaks outside
Being cooped up in the house all day can leave you feeling less motivated to get through your workload. By taking regular breaks and making time to get out into the yard, it can really boost those productivity levels. Spend just 10-15 minutes in your garden or reading a book in your backyard to help refresh your mindset. Even taking a quick walk around the block can help!
Always prepare for the day ahead
When you go to work, you know there are things you need to do to get ready for the day. You have a routine that prepares you for work. The same applies when you start working from home. You might start out thinking you can work in your pajamas all day however, you should make the effort to get dressed and ready to start your day. Create a new morning routine to get your mindset geared towards work.
Use the power of nature
Did you know that plants and flowers can help you to feel more motivated? Adding them to your workspace can help to brighten up the working environment. Numerous studies have shown how effective greenery can be within an office environment. So, if you want an easy way to stay productive, add a few houseplants and flowers to your home office.
Add mood-boosting smells to your work area
You can also utilize the power of scent to boost your productivity. Citrus scents such as lemon, orange, or bergamot have been known to help boost productivity and focus. While lavender and jasmine can have a calming effect to help soothe nerves and tension. You can also try rosemary or cinnamon can help to fight mental fatigue. Adding a few drops to a diffuser by your workspace and help you to work more efficiently and keep your day moving along.
