How to Make a Quilted Mug Rug
This project started out as an ornament, however because it is only made a few layers of fabric it didn’t hang well on the tree. It was so cute that I didn’t want to just toss it into my scraps pile, but I wasn’t sure what to do with it. Since I always have a drink at the computer or at the sewing table, it seems right to make it a mug rug.
It’s fairly easy to make:
- Layer cotton batting between two pieces of fabric.
- Trace your shape using a washable, water soluble fabric marker. Use a ruler to make your quilting lines.
- Use the lines as a guide to sewing your fabric layers together.
- Cut out the shape using pinking shears.
- Wipe away the fabric marker lines.
Cute, right? It was very quick and easy to make. You could probably whip out a few for co-worker, neighbor or friend gifts.
What a simple but clever idea! Thank-you for sharing, these would make great gifts for teachers. Jo x
