Back to School Style with JCPenney
My kids and I had a great time shopping for back to school clothes and we want to tell you all about it. A big thanks to JCPenney for sponsoring today’s post!
This year Back to School shopping was a little bit different for our family. For the first time I have not one, but two kids starting school in the Fall. In the past before school started my daughter and I would make a Mommy and Me day out of clothes shopping. This year we were also accompanied by my son who will start Pre-K in just a few weeks!
It’s hard to believe that my daughter will be starting the 2nd grade this Fall. When she was about 18 months old she started to express interest in dressing herself. Growing up my parents let my sisters and I pick out our own clothes so that we could express our creativity, and now I wanted to do the same for my kids. Sometimes my sisters think I’m crazy to let my daughter go to school wearing striped pants, polka dots leg warmers and a loud floral top, but she is so happy to be able to make her own fashion choices and I want her to feel strong and confident everyday.
My son didn’t really care too much what he wore until about age 3. Then we started the “pajama phase.” Even though I am all for self expression, we really couldn’t go too many places where pj’s were acceptable attire. After a few (dozen) conversations about the difference between day and night wear, he understood and was happy with just being able to make his own choice. Sometimes he wears corduroy pants in the Summer, and sometimes he chooses green plaid shorts with a bright orange shirt, so we don’t always agree. But just like his sister, as long as he’s happy and confident with his choices then so am I.
Before we went out on our shopping adventure, I went to JCPenney’s website and printed out a 15% off coupon. I set out with a budget planning to purchase just a few outfits for each kid to get them started, but instead came home with so much more! There were lots of great colors and prints to choose from, the kids were very happy with their purchases.
My son was especially happy with the character tees. He was able to get t-shirts with all of his favorites – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Jake and the Neverland Pirates and one with a bunch of the Marvel Comic characters too.
To my surprise the one piece that he loved the most was the Okie Dokie hooded sweater. It’s nearly 80 degrees here and he wanted to wear it everywhere because he said it’s so soft inside!
Back to school shopping can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. We had a great time shopping at JCPenney, the kids were able to purchase all of the prints and styles they wanted and I was able to afford them with the great prices! Be sure to print out your 15% off coupon before your next shopping trip!
