Natural Remedies to Soothe a Sore Throat
When we came home from our weekend of traveling, we all felt worn out. It was warm outside during our long drive so we had the air conditioning on in the car and then in hotel room also. We usually don’t use ours at home because we get a nice breeze almost everyday. But just those few days inside, with the A/C on gave us all a sore throat. I like to drink hot tea when I have a sore throat, but I know it’s not for everyone so I put together a list a few other remedies that might work for you!
- Gargle with warm salt water several times a day to help reduce swelling and relieve discomfort.
- Drink hot tea with lemon. You can find a few good recipes in my Tea Recipes to Fight a Cold post.
- Use a humidifier in your room at night to add a little extra moisture to the air.
- Drinking plenty of fluids will not only soothe your sore throat but will also continually wash away the bacteria.
- Gargle with a mixture of 1 tbsp of unpasteurized apple cider vinegar and 1 cup of hot water. It will sting a little bit, but it will help a lot!
- Eat a frozen popsicle made with a fruit puree. The cold will numb your throat and provide some relief.
- Add honey to your tea. Honey has long been used to relieve sore throats, among other ailments, due to it’s antibacterial properties.
Also, be sure to replace your toothbrush. You don’t want to spread even more bacteria around! Sore throats can also be from a cold or bacterial infection. If you have a fever or your sore throat persists or gets worse, you may need to see a doctor.
