5 Ways to Use Essential Oils for Relaxation

My kids are headed back to school soon and the lazy days of Summer will be over! I’m looking forward to some quiet time during the days but I know that time comes with a price. Sports, birthday parties, school projects, field trips – with all of these activities added to waking up early my stress levels are sure to soar!

With all of the hustle bustle that goes on during your busy day you would think that it would be easy to fall into a deep, peaceful sleep. But when your mind is racing, relaxation does not come easy! Not getting enough REM sleep each night can cause more stress and anxiety, even depression. While a balanced diet and a good night’s sleep is your best defense against stress, sometimes it’s hard to find the time to exercise regularly, and eat right which will contribute to the daily challenge of sleeping well.

Drugstore sleep aids always leave me drowsy in the morning and feeling even more tired than I did before! Here are a few ways to incorporate essential oils in your daily, and nightly, routine to help you relax.

1. Use a diffuser in you bedroom at night to add the smell of calming essential oils to the air. Any of the following oils can help calm the central nervous system: Lavender, Chamomile, or a blend such as Peaceful Sleep

2. Adding Lavender to an Epsom salt bath at night reduces inflammation, helps with aches & pains, and relieves allergies (add eucalyptus oil for added therapeutic benefits of aches, pains, and opening up sinuses)

3. Use 2 drops of Lavender or Chamomile oil on your pillow to help you sleep. If you wake up in the middle of the night, rub a couple of drops mixed with a carrier oil on the soles of your feet!

4. During the day, diffuse Mental Focus. or mix in a spray bottle with water and mist your work area. This oil helps support clarity and focus during a busy or hectic day.

5. Add Lavender to your night time moisturizing routine, I put a few drops in my nighttime hand and foot cream. This helps with with dermal cellular repair and relaxation.

Also, make sure you are drinking enough water during the day to stay hydrated and help maintain proper blood pressure. Dehydration can cause headaches, fatigue, confusion, dizziness, sleeplessness, and so much more.
