Tea Recipes to Fight a Cold
Yesterday I posted a list of foods that are rich in Vitamin C and Zinc, which are two great resources for preventing colds. But if you already have a cold, you probably just want to curl up on the couch with a blanket and a hot cup of tea. But don’t drink just any tea, make one that will help fight the cold you have.
Here are a few recipes to try:
Lemon Honey Tea: Steep lemon slices in hot water to make a tea and add honey. This drink will help to clear a cough and help to prevent a more serious condition such as bronchitis or tonsillitis. Lemons help to rid the body of toxins and honey encourage healing. You can drink this tea regularly to help prevent illnesses such as a cold.
Chamomile tea is also helpful as chamomile has antiseptic benefits to help rid the body of infection. It can also reduce fever and feverish symptoms.
Ginger Tea: Peel a 2 inch piece of ginger and cut into thin slices, to optimize flavor. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan and then add the ginger. Cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 15-20 minutes. Strain the tea removing the bits of ginger. Add honey and lemon to taste.
NOTE: If you want to make just one cup of tea you can add 3 tsp of grated ginger to 1 c boiling water. Let it steep for 5-10 minutes before straining/drinking. Add honey and lemon to taste.
What do you use to help fight a cold?
I love Chamomile tea at night. It helps me sleep. I also love Sore Throat tea when I have one of those. It has slippery elm that really does help! Ginger tea from the store often burns my throat. I’ll have to try your recipe.
