Teaching Kids About Saving Money

Teaching Kids About Saving Money

Teaching your kids about money should be fun and exciting, not boring and traumatic. I’ve found several cute ways to teach my kids about money and I wanted to pass them on!

#1. Money Crafts

Since regular money can be sort of dirty, it’s fun and cute to teach kids about money by doing money crafts. Creating “currency” with your child’s picture on it is one way to introduce them to money. When they are little, it’s about the small ways of learning not the big issues that money is associated with.

#2. Spend, Give, & Save Jars

A very cute way to teach your kids about money are to take 3 jars or containers and mark them spend, give, and save. Each time your child gets paid, they will need to split up their money inside these jars. You don’t want to make it feel like a chore, so try to make it a lighthearted event.

#3. Sorting Coins

Another cute way to teach your child about money is a coin sorting game. Keep in mind that they’ll need to be old enough not to swallow coins for this one. Use an ice cube tray and have a paper version of the coin taped to part of the ice cube tray. The objective of this game is to have the child separate a pile of coins into the ice cube tray. You’ll want them to put the quarters with the quarters and so on.

#4. Money Bingo

This is one of my favorite games to play with my kiddos. You’ll want to create a Money Bingo Board by separating a sheet of paper into 12 squares. You will write 10 cents, 25 cents, or $1 and other various amounts onto the sheet. When you call out a number your child has to be able to find the correct amount using real change.

As you can see, teaching your child about money can be fun, and these cute ways to teach kids about money prove it!
