The DoSeum - San Antonio's Kids Museum

Yesterday my family I went to visit The DoSeum in San Antonio for the first time and it was such a fun experience! The DoSeum is a hands-on, interactive children’s museum. It serves as a “charging station” to power up kids’ minds and supports the important work of schools and community organizations. The exhibits and programs promote play, invite discovery, spark interest, and develop positive attitudes towards learning across critical content areas.

We started our day in the Spy Academy where the kids tried on different disguises like fake mustaches, trench coats, and hats. THen we learned how to use secret codes. I think the kids favorite part was the mystery house. There were secret passages, hidden patterns in the bookshelves, and oversized chairs to play games in.

Next, we went to the most recent exhibit – Dream Tomorrow Today. The kids slide down into the exhibit where there is a wall with animated drawings moving across the wall. These are drawings that the kids have colored! Jack colored a fire truck and was so excited when he said it drive across the city on the wall.

We then moved on to the Future City Lab where Parker used an augmented reality platform to see how different community values create buildings, places, and services like hospitals, schools, and more.

There was also role-playing where the kids dressed up in uniforms and clothes that help them to imagine their roles in the future. Then they could stand in front of a green screen to play out different scenarios—on a city street, park, or house of the future.

Another exhibit we enjoyed was the Innovation Station. There were several stations set up where kids could learn and explore. You could move remote control robots, use magnets to move objects, or build anything you wanted using the buckets and buckets of parts. Jack really enjoyed playing with the life-size robot that mimicked your movements.

Unfortunately, we were not able to go outside because of rain. But I was told there were butterfly gardens, water feature tables, and a huge climbing structure. So, next time we visit we’ll be sure to stop there first!
