5 Tips for Making Laundry Easier
Doing laundry is one of my least favorite chores. It seems as if the piles are never-ending and my kids always amaze me with the stains they collect throughout the week. After years of sorting, washing, and folding I’ve picked up a few tips and tricks along the way that I’m going to share with you today!
Follow the instructions on the labels. Clothing companies add instructions to their labels for a reason! They know the best way to wash the clothes and you should follow it. The material the garment is made of doesn’t automatically determine the best way to wash it. The decoration on the garment, or even the dyes used can also affect the laundering method.
Pre-treat stains. The longer you let a stain sit, the harder it will be to remove. White vinegar and baking soda are great at pre-treating stains. Mix the two to form a paste and apply it to the stain. Grease is a stain I come across often with my husband’s work clothes. I’ve found that sprinkling baby powder on the stain works best to absorb the grease before washinh!
Don’t wait until the last minute. Staring at an overflowing basket of laundry is the worst! I used to do the laundry on Sundays for our whole family of five and it took hours. I dreaded the task each week until I decided to break it down and do smaller loads of laundry every few days.
Protect your clothes with Downy. Downy does more than just soften your towels and blankets. When added to your wash it conditions, strengthens, and lubricates each fiber to protect clothing from the friction, and agitation of a typical washing cycle. Instead of losing their shape, clothes bounce back to their original shape.
Decrease dry time with a towel. By adding a clean towel with your wet clothes in the dryer, you can decrease your dry time. Not only does this cut down your overall laundry time, it also saves energy! This tip is most helpful when drying heavy fabrics such as jeans.
Downy Fabric Conditioner is available at Walmart and Walmart.com for every day low prices.
