Walking 10,000 Steps A Day
This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Omron. The opinions and text are all mine.
After I had my daughter it wasn’t too much of a struggle to get back down to my pre-baby weight. Three years later when I was pregnant with my oldest son, my weight gain was minimal and I lost any excess weight within just a few months. But for some reason after having my youngest son two years ago it’s been such a struggle to lose weight! I have little “extra time” to devote to exercise but I know that my health is important and I need to make time.
I started working out at a gym and I just love it! The boys have a great time in the kids’ program and I get to workout with no interruptions. But I can’t always get to the gym so I have to make an effort in my everyday life to get my workout in. I was excited to try out the Omron Alvita pedometer to see how well I was doing. On an average weekday when I walked my daughter to school and ran a few errands I would get in 6500- 7000 steps. On a day that I went to the gym, I would get in about 9000 steps. So I set my goal to be 10,000 steps every day!
Here are a few tips that I am using to make my goal:
- Take the stairs instead of an elevator whenever possible
- Park in the back of the parking lot instead of waiting for a front spot
- Take breaks throughout the day when I’m working to get up and move around
- Instead of sitting and watching the kids play at the park, walk around the playground with them while they play
- Plan outside activities with the kids and play games with them
The Omron Alvita pedometer has helped me out so much. Before I started using it I had no idea how many steps I was taking each day. It really puts things into perspective. I like that it tells you more than just step count, it also tells you how many miles you’ve walked and how many calories you’ve burned throughout your day. By checking my step count every few hours, I get motivated during my day to work harder at meeting my 10,000 step goal!
Every step you take is in the direction of a healthier lifestyle, so start tracking your progress with Omron’s new Alvita Ultimate Pedometer (HJ-325). Special technology allows you to stow it in your pocket or purse and still get an accurate step count, while also offering the traditional option of wearing it on your hip. Challenge yourself to get to about 5 miles or 10,000 steps every day!
