How to Make Yarn Pumpkins
Last year I made the cutest paper pumpkins to add to my mantle. This year I wanted to make pumpkins again but with a different medium – yarn. I have a slight obsession with yarn, even though I don’t knit or crochet. I love the variety of colors and try to use it for all sorts of projects. For these pumpkins you only need yarn, pipe cleaners, and scissors.
Using your yarn, make a pompom. There are several ways to do this, you can see (4) of them in this post: How to Make a Yarn Pompom. I was given this pompom making tool at a craft expo a few years ago it has been very useful! You can move the pegs to adjust the size of your pompom. I’m not sure who makes it, there’s no branding on it, but if you would prefer to use a tool to make your pompoms there are several available on Amazon.
Once you have tied off your pompom, don’t cut the sides like you normally would for a pompom. Leave it tied so that you have a pumpkin shaped ball.
Turn your pumpkin over and thread a small piece of brown pipe cleaner through the middle tie. Then twist the two sides of the pipe cleaner together to make your stem.
I also added a dark green curled pipe cleaners to my pumpkins.
I made pumpkins in a few different sizes, aren’t they cute? I love how they turned out!
